You will visit the forts of Esseilon, at the cost of some physical forts.
A loop that takes you down to the edge of the Arc by a single with some steep portions. The suite takes you back to Aussois via the Barrière de l'Esseillon, or forts de l'Esseillon.
You will follow the Arc on a pleasant track. Then it gets a little tricky, you will take a narrow path with some steep portions. Don't panic, it's not over a long distance. You will then find a track that will take you back to Aussois.
The Esseillon barrier is a series of five fortifications.
Built in the 19th century on a rocky lock closing the upper Arc Valley (Maurienne Valley) above Modane, these fortifications were designed to protect the cisalpine part of the kingdom of Sardinia from possible French invasion. It includes four forts and a redoubt, named after contemporary members of the House of Savoy. Two of the forts are classified as historic monuments.
